Many months ago someone posted a picture of the Sugar and Spice Cardigan.
I waited patiently until Simply Crochet Issue 32 hit the newsstand at my local book store.
I LOVE this cardigan.
I also realized that I LOVE all designs by Simone Francis (designer of my Cowl Neck Poncho)
I decided to use some stash yarn and try this pattern.
Lovely pattern and I learned a few things.
~ I need to work on my standing double crochet stitch. I didn’t use it here and I think if I did, I would have a neater edge. (Great video tutorial by Moogly found here)
~ I decided to use single crochet for the last few rounds (where the color change is). I should have changed to a larger hook size to make it “looser”.
~ I need to remember to convert to US terminology. I can’t tell you how many times I was halfway through a row and remembered that UK DC is US SC.
~ I need to do chest measurements on my daughter. She is 21 months and I made the 3-4 yr version…she may be able to wear this through the fall. Not a very large cardigan (but oh so cute!).
This will be a pattern I keep and continue to make for Miss ME as she grows. Now that I know what I would do differently, I will invest in some more luxurious yarn for her next one!
This pattern is easy enough for a beginner crocheter.
Happy Crocheting!
