Completing WIPS

I started a WIP long ago, the Half Granny Square shawl by Anastacia Knits (free pattern).

I started it so long ago, I can’t remember the changes I made to the pattern.

All along I intended to do a border and chose the border from Doris Chan’s All Shawl (free pattern).

I had enough yarn to complete the foundation row and rows 1-3 of the border.  I love it!

I am particularly proud of working this from the chart only.  I did not consult the written pattern at all (a testament to Doris Chan’s work-the chart was so clear).

I set up my foundation row by doing the following:

Shell (DC, DC, CH 2, DC, DC), CH3, SC, CH3, SC, CH3, Repeat.

My count worked out well with a Shell at the point.

Changes I would make?

I would do the following on the foundation row:

Shell, CH2, SC, CH3, SC, CH2, Repeat.

I felt my CH3 on either side of the shell were too much.  A CH2 would have worked better.

I don’t plan on blocking this as it is just for me to wear in the house during the winter months.

This has made me want to make the entire All Shawl with a DK weight….

Thank you! I really haven’t worked from a chart, but it was very clear and I plan on doing a Doris Chan project (from chart only) in the future! You can do it!

I love this shawl. Doris’s patterns are beautiful. I’ve never tried one but I admire them often. The colors are really pretty in this shawl, I love the gradient of them.

Ali, I have a Ruby pattern shawl I am trying to finish crocheting this season as well as knitting the blanket that I posted about on Jennifer’s party link site. I love the shawl pattern and colors you are using. I’m cheering you on to reach your goals 🙂

This is such a lovely blanket you have created. I love the edging; thank you for sharing the link. I made a blanket awhile back and had to make up my own pattern for the ruffled border. Have a great day 🙂
