Charity Projects

2015 has been a difficult year in its entirety.

During one of my sleepless nights, I was on the RedHeart.com site reading the blog section and saw the “charities” tab.

I have spent many of my sleepless nights crocheting (and now knitting), so what better way to spend my time than creating something nice for someone else.

Right now, I am looking for “quick one-skein” projects (although I am finishing a lapghan for Hospice-more on that in a later post).

One of the charities is the Foster Care to Success Red Scarf Project.  Create a red scarf to be added to a care package that is sent to a foster child who is now in college.  I remember getting care packages from my family when I was in college and how nice it was to receive that little “bit of home” in the mail.  College is hard and maybe my scarves will brighten someone’s day.

The first scarf I completed is The Shelly Scarf by Emily Nelson at Joyful Abode.

An easy DC repeat that makes a lovely scarf.

This used about 1/2 skein of Stylecraft Special DK in Claret.

What a great project. I shall have a look at the links you’ve provided. I’m trying to do lots of bits and pieces for charity this year, not just knitting, but I did knit some hats for Norfolk and Norwich Neonatal Intensive Care Unit:-

I found their details on the UK Hand Knitting Association’s website under the charity projects tab. There’s lots of charity knitting ideas on there which I came across purely by chance. The lapghan for the hospice is another lovely idea, I look forward to hearing more about that.
