Yarn Along

imageTwo weeks ago I posted that I was reading The Nest (currently on the NY Times Best Seller list).   Well, I’m not sure why it is on that list.  I found it utterly forgettable.

Not bad, not good either.

Oh well, you never lose when you borrow books from the library!

This week choice is The Good House by Ann Leary.

Hildy Good has reached that dangerous time in a woman’s life – middle-aged and divorced, she is an oddity in her small but privileged town. But Hildy isn’t one for self-pity and instead meets the world with a wry smile, a dark wit and a glass or two of Pinot Noir. When her two earnest grown-up children stage ‘an intervention’ and pack Hildy off to an addiction centre, she thinks all this fuss is ridiculous. After all, why shouldn’t Hildy enjoy a drink now and then?

But as the story progresses, we start to see another side to Hildy Good, and to her life’s greatest passion – the lies and self deceptions needed to support her drinking, and the damage she causes to those she loves. When a cluster of secrets become dangerously entwined, the reckless behavior of one threatens to expose the other, with devastating consequences.

This has been on my “to-read” list for a long while.  It was finally available at my library this week.

This weeks project is Look At What I Made’s Joy’s Journey.  This is a continuous crochet square (tutorial here) using variegated yarn.   Although, I love her choice of yarn and color (kits found here), I chose to use super bulky yarn to make the project quicker since I want to give it as a gift soon.  I am using Bernat Bargello in Plum (purple is a favorite color of the recipient).  I was able to purchase it at an unbelievable price at The Yarn Factory Outlet during a one day sale.  The yarn is super soft and squishy.

On an additional note, I also purchased Bernat Cotton-ish in three colors on a whim (also at the same online sale).  I had no project in mind, then boom, on my Facebook feed along came ELK Studios Southern Diamonds Wrap.  I love when the perfect project presents itself!

A big thanks to my parents for watching the kids for a couple of hours so I could hang out at my happy place-An Unlikely Story!  Plus, I found some new reads!
