At my LYS, I saw one hank of Peace Fleece Yarn (in Blueberry Borscht) sitting in a basket.
I HAD to have it.
Why? I have no idea, I just knew it was mine!
I wound it and then struggled to find the right knit or crochet pattern that needed only one hank (approximately 200 yards).
I frogged many, many projects.
Then I stumbled upon Cre8tion Crochet’s Newsboy Slouch Hat.
Ding, ding, ding…we have a winner!
This is a great pattern, easy for a beginner crocheter.
Lorene has well written instructions and a photo tutorial.
Using a 9mm crochet hook, you get nice detail by utilizing front post double crochet.
For my hat, I wanted less “slouch” so I chose to do only four repeats of Row 6.
I then switched to a 6.5mm hook for the brim and held 2 strands together.
I chose to break my yarn and slip stitch to begin the brim because I didn’t want my seam to be in the front of the hat.
I chose to repeat stitch instructions 1-6 twice (first row of brim stitches).
I’m glad another Ravelry member suggested this in her project notes, makes the brim depth perfect.
I then followed the remainder of the pattern.
I’m not a fan of myself in pictures, but you only get the true awesomeness of this hat when it is being worn.
So, Ta-Dahhhhhh!
My finished Newsboy Slouch Hat:
I was worried that with glasses it would look like too much with the brim, but I think it works!
I have some yarn left over and debated a pompom, but I think it is better without.
Hopefully I have enough to make an ear warmer (maybe an Amazing Grace pattern) or maybe a flower to pin to a jacket.
Suggestions?
I love this hat! I know, I’ll get a lot of use out of it!
