Super Scarves.
They are the trend right now.
Caron Cakes.
They are a trend right now.
I have to say, I really like Caron Cakes.
20% wool, I find the yarn soft and lovely to work with.
Plus, color changes and no ends to weave in!
In Simply Crochet Issue #40, there was a scarf entitled Three Scoops.
A color block scarf made with simple SC and DC which gives the scarf a lovely texture.
I used this and Caron Cakes in Cherry Chip to make a super scarf.
The scarf measures in at 8.5 feet long!
It is soft and warm.
My only complaint are the light portions of yarn in the brown sections (you can see them in the picture above and below).
Found in both balls of yarn I used.
Not enough of a problem for me to not like the scarf.
The colors are fun!
I debated between fringe, 4 small pompoms or 2 large pompoms on each end.
However, I wasn’t sure if I would have enough yarn to do those (I had saved the last small portion of light pink for the decorative edge).
Instead, I opted to do a small pompom edging.
I googled “crochet pompom edging” and found several sites and youtube sites that all seemed to use the same technique. The pompoms are made of stacked cluster stitches and I think they give the scarf a cute, quirky edge.
I love the scarf, but I’m not sure if I’ll keep it for myself.
I am making myself a PomPom Scarf from yummy yarn my SIL gave me…
…and I have the yarn all ready to make a Granny Shawl (free pattern by Charlene Van den Brande). I love this version:
I bought a Caron Cake that has cream, blue and brown and a ball of Lion Brand Wool-Ease in red to mimic this color scheme.
I’m debating giving the Cherry Chip Super Scarf away if someone tells me they would love to have it, or donating it to Hooking for the Homeless (charity in NH) for which I keep a box ready in my house, filling with hats, fingerless gloves and scarves to mail off.
We’ll see!

Great projects, both finished and planned. I’m seeing lots of pom poms right now and how can you not love them!
We don’t have a Michaels in my area but I love seeing all the Cake projects.

Lovely scarf. Every time I go to grab Caron Cakes they are out. They do t seem to last long in the store.

Nice scarf and the colors are great. Wish I could use the Caron Cake. That wool is a deal breaker for me though. I think the granny shawl is going to be spectacular too. Love that blue for the pom pom scarf. As to whether to keep or gift the scarf? Hard choice. I guess I keep it as with the wool content in it, washing might cause a problem otherwise.

Thank you! I love the granny shawl in the picture, I hope mine looks similar! I ended up giving the scarf to a friend at work 🙂

I keep pondering the Caron Cakes every time I see them and I just cannot justify the yarn right now. Someday, maybe.

I only get them with the 50 or 60% coupon 😉 They have about 350 yarns so I can make a nice scarf out of one!

Your post has be wishing I’d picked up a Caron Cake with my 50% off coupon when I was in there a couple of days ago. I think they actually had this color in stock (they’ve always been out when I’ve been in there before). I can’t tell for sure if I like the Caron Cakes for their colors or their softness. They are wonderfully soft.
The texture on that scarf is really nice. And I absolutely love that pom pom fringe you put on it. Oh my goodness… I want to put that on something.
I want to make all your things. I love what you come up with to create! 🙂

They are very soft! I seem to not think the colors are that great when they are wound in the cake, but then I make a project and I end up loving the colors!
Thank you for your kind words!

The Caron Cakes scarf is like pinkalicious, princess heaven for a little girl. OMGosh, I totally want one of those pom pom scarves! What book is the pattern from? I can’t wait to see your Granny scarf. It looks so cozy.

The pattern was from Simply Crochet Magazine Issue 40 (Called Three Scoops). It is a very similar pattern to Little Monkey’s Crochet Comfy Squares blanket pattern (which could be adapted to a scarf-and its free). I used this pattern to make a baby blanket for my cousin-loved it!

What a lovely scarf. The brown is a little strange but only you will know it is there. I love the pom pom edging.

Thank you! It was odd that the same thing appeared in both cakes in the exact same section.

I really like the pompom edging on your scarf. I don’t think it is quirky so much as adorables. I agree on the light brown-it seems slightly out of place. A kinda Neapolitan touch to Valentine Hearts colored scarf….

The original pattern was called three scoops but I thought it looked like Neapolitan ice cream!

Check out Yarnspirations.com for super scarves! They have some great knit and crochet scarfs. The pattern I used isn’t free, but it is almost identical to the pattern I used for my Comfy Squares baby blanket which is a pattern by Little Monkeys’ Crochet. Super easy, mindless, watch tv crocheting!

I can’t wait to go to your project page as similar to Becky, I love all your projects and color combos. The cherry chip scarf is adorable and I would gift it to me! LOL! But I think the homeless in NH would really appreciate it…I think beauty is especially appreciated by them and in NH it gets really cold! Thank you for your rav id and I need to put your blog on my blog list. I am also going to check out Yarnspirations as I am looking for scarf/cowl patterns as we speak. Thank you for the info on Caron Cakes too. I love your pompom edging so much better than the ones you buy! Great job per usual for you! Happy Halloween and thank you for so much crochet inspiration!

I’ve never heard of a caron cake. The colours are so nice together. Really lush. I don’t think the colour changes in the brown is much of an issue, it still looks delicious and cosy. 🙂 The texture of the stitches is lovely too.

Thank you! It is such an easy pattern, very similar to Little Monkey’s Crochet’s Comfy Squares.
