Halloween Crafting

This Halloween, my daughter gets it!

She has been excited about dressing up and all she talks about being is a witch.

“Mommy, I NEED a witch’s cape”… “I NEED one”.

Ok, off to Joann’s I went.

1/2 yard of spider fabric and 1/2 yard of black cat fabric.

I basically followed directions for the pillow case found in my favorite sewing book, The School of Sewing.

I left a 1 inch opening on each side and sewed all four sides using french seams.

Then I top stitched across the 1 inch opening for the ribbon.

In went the ribbon, I scrunched up the fabric and stitched across the 1 inch opening.

Tada!

A cape fit for a cute witch!

Annnnnnd, then…..

“It is TOOOOOO SCARY”…runs out of the room.

She refuses to look at it.

**SIGH**

Little does she know I also have black fabric with BOO written all over it that I plan on making a witch’s skirt.

So, after that disaster, I dug into my stash to see if I had two yards of any fabric to make some curtains for my craft room.

This room was our dining room and we painted it a dark color and had deep red curtains.

It is so dark in there.

I found this fabric:

So, just like the playroom, I made very simple, unlined curtains.

I actually don’t want them lined as I want as much light as I can get.

So what if you can see the hems when the light hits them?!

They let in more light than the dark red curtains.

This room is a work in progress.

I organized my yarn yesterday (I need to work only from stash for a while):

I plan on someday repainting this room, along with the kitchen, family room and hallway.

However, right now our focus is on replacement windows for all the windows and new kitchen countertops and backsplash.

Have a good week!

LOL! I can’t stop laughing after reading your daughter’s response to the cape. What you’ve made is adorable. Kids! 🙂

Love your organization, Ali. My yarn is organized, but I have too much. I never thought I say that, but it’s true. It IS possible to have too much yarn… And I have done it.

She is so funny and so cute. I think the cape is darling and not too scary at all…and I scare easily! LOL! Love your curtains…they really add a bright touch to the room. I need to paint also but holding off until I have a “place for everything and everything in it’s place”…that may take a while. My next project is my crafts room too. Yours looks great…mine you can hardly walk through. I need to go visit “I should be mopping”‘s blog…what a great title! Any of you that have too much yarn and want to send it my way…feel free! LOL!

LOL on that witch’s cape. It’s cute, BTW. And love your new valance. I have that fabric in an unfinished tunic top that I need to dig out and finish one day. LOVE your dark teal wall.
