Book Date

It has been a while since I posted my reads.

This week I am listening to The Good Girl by Mary Kubica:

“I’ve been following her for the past few days. I know where she buys her groceries, where she works. I don’t know the color of her eyes or what they look like when she’s scared. But I will.”

One night, Mia Dennett enters a bar to meet her on-again, off-again boyfriend. But when he doesn’t show, she unwisely leaves with an enigmatic stranger. At first Colin Thatcher seems like a safe one-night stand. But following Colin home will turn out to be the worst mistake of Mia’s life.

When Colin decides to hide Mia in a secluded cabin in rural Minnesota instead of delivering her to his employers, Mia’s mother, Eve, and detective Gabe Hoffman will stop at nothing to find them. But no one could have predicted the emotional entanglements that eventually cause this family’s world to shatter.

An addictively suspenseful and tautly written thriller, The Good Girl is a propulsive debut that reveals how even in the perfect family, nothing is as it seems.

This is taking me a while due to the narrators.

Several people narrate this book and one is like nails on a chalkboard for me, but I am determined to finish listening to it.

I am currently reading The Marriage Lie by Kimberly Belle (another debut book):

Iris and Will’s marriage is as close to perfect as it can be: a large house in a nice Atlanta neighborhood, rewarding careers and the excitement of trying for their first baby. But on the morning Will leaves for a business trip to Orlando, Iris’s happy world comes to an abrupt halt. Another plane headed for Seattle has crashed into a field, killing everyone on board, and according to the airline, Will was one of the passengers on this plane.

Grief-stricken and confused, Iris is convinced it all must be a huge misunderstanding. But as time passes and there is still no sign of Will, she reluctantly accepts that he is gone. Still, Iris needs answers. Why did Will lie about where he was going? What is in Seattle? And what else has he lied about? As Iris sets off on a desperate quest to find out what her husband was keeping from her, the answers she receives will shock her to her very core.

This is really holding my attention.

Since I last posted, here are books I have finished:

  • Righteous by Joe Ide:  I loved the first book in this series (IQ), this one was confusing to me.  I really like the characters, but the story line confused me.  I listened to this book and I wonder if that was the problem.  I could never tell when the story was jumping back in time, I had to keep using the rewind.  That being said, because of the characters, I am looking forward to the third installment.
  • Luckiest Girl Alive by Jessica Knoll:  My cousin recommended this book to be.  I was ambivalent about this book (I didn’t really like the main character),  then the twist came and I was hooked.  I recommend this book.
  • The Girl Before by J. P. Delaney: I read this pretty quick until the last 1/4th, they I became bored and mostly skimmed the end.
  • Hardcore Twenty Four by Janet Evanovich:  I listen to all these books and once again I found myself laughing out loud a lot!  Always fun, I recommend listening to this series (the narrator Lorelai King is awesome!).
  • The Poison in the Pudding by Shea MacLeod:  I listened to this quick book.  Really did not like the main character (not sure if it was the voice or the character).  Will not be listening to any others in this series.

Thats it for now!

At the end of the month I am going to post all books from my Good Reads 2017 Reading Challenge.

Have a good day!

I read IQ but wasn’t all that thrilled with it. I think I’ll give Ide’s next book a pass especially when you say the plot is confusing. It might be time to catch up with Stephanie Plum though. Come see my week here. Happy reading!
