One of the reasons I started knitting was to eventually knit socks.
I love seeing everyone’s socks (Hermione’s EveryDay Socks on Ravelry-22K+ made…I want to make them!)
I purchased a Craftsy class to learn how to make them.
I watched it.
I never made them.
I saw Attic 24 make socks with a teeny tiny circulars.
I bought the needles.
I never made them.
I just couldn’t pull the trigger.
I was intimidated.
Then I saw that Marly Bird was going to have a six week Learn to Make Your First Socks KAL.
I pulled the trigger!
I used Marly’s Learn to Make a Garter Stitch Shawl to learn to knit and that worked out well.
Completing that KAL gave me such confidence.
So, I bought two sets of 3.5mm DPNs and cast on.
First I was going to use Lion Brand Yarn’s Fisherman Wool.
However, I thought if I was going to be doing this project for six weeks, I wanted some fun yarn.
So I recast on with this fun stash yarn…reminds me of Tulips in springtime!
With Marly’s tips, I have successfully completed week two on both socks.
I like either knee socks or ankle socks, so I stopped these at 4.5 inches rather than 6inches.
I plan on using these as “wear around the house” socks.
Wish me luck!
Four more weeks to go.
Joining the other YOPers on Ravelry.
Good luck! You can do it! Very fun stash yarn 🙂

I love your first socks. And the yarn you chose is fun. I haven’t yet pulled the trigger on socks, but you nudge me closer. ;^)

Congratulations! Socks were the reason I started knitting too…and it took me awhile to make them….right now I have nine pair on the needles, as I finished a pair today…..

Your shawl is gorgeous. What a great way to really get knitting knowledge.
Your socks look wonderful. You are doing a fantastic job. Be careful…….sock knitting is addictive. The Hermione pattern is one of my favorites too.

Look at you go! You’re a better woman than me….my first socks didn’t look nearly as good as yours plus I just frogged my Hitchhiker for the second time after getting more than halfway both times…..go figure? Your garter stitch shawl is beautiful. I may have to look up t his “marly” person! You do beautiful work no matter what you do. Congrats!

Thank you! Marly is one of the faces of Red Heart Yarns. She does tutorials for them and has her own YouTube channel. I like her video tutorials because of the way they are filmed and the fact that she demonstrates both English and Continental style. She also does crochet tutorials. I’m sorry you frogged your hitchhiker 😦 Honestly, if you looked at mine you’d find my “teeth” are not even…There were sections where I lost count and did too many rows 🙂
