What a year…

What a year 2020 was.

Like everyone, we have been overwhelmed, saddened, fattened (lots of baking) and unlike some, very lucky.

We lost family memebers (Covid related and non related), and like so many, were unable to have proper goodbyes.

No wakes, no funerals, no gathereings and no hugs.

We hope to have celebrations of life.

Working in a hospital at the height of Covid was one of the most eye opening experiences of my life.

My unit was transformed into a Covid unit and I basically worked as an extra staff member (after pre op’ing emergency OR cases). I spent entire shifts cleaning people, feeding people, holding iPads for Face Time and sadly, sitting for hours holding someones hand as they passed.

My unit has reverted back to surgery and we are back to doing what we do best. My heart goes out to all the ICU staff still in the thick of the crisis.

My children did pretty well with the shut down.

I really appreciate all the hard work our school district did organizing the 2020/2021 school year. It seemed to work well for us and, due to special needs, my son was in school full time from the first day (which I am SO thankful for).

My concentration went away, so there wasn’t much reading, but there was lots of knitting, baking, cooking and exercising (which did not negate a covid 19 weight gain…but I’m working on it).

I hope you all survived the year relatively unscathed.

I hope you all continued to be healthy and hopefully did not lose any family members or friends.

If you did, I am so sorry for your loss.

I hope to resume writing the blog and catching up on the blogs Ihave come to really enjoy.

So nice to hear from you. Yes, it has been a year for the books. Your experiences will stay with you for the rest of your life, no doubt. I can only say that the families of those you cared for must have felt a bit of peace in having you spend time with their loved ones in their absence.
    Stay well, friend. xoxo Regina
