One of my go to things is a good cozy mystery. Over the past year, they have really helped me escape and were the one genre that helped get my reading concentration back.
So, here are four recent cozy mysteries that I have enjoyed:
Death at the Salon by Louise R. Innes.
I received this as part of my cozy mystery susbcription from Murder By the Book (located in Texas). Although this is number two of the series, I was able to jump right in with this book (book #1 is currently found in Kindle Unlimited if you are a subscriber).
Hairdresser Daisy Thorn finds her pair of scissors in a customers back outside her salon on a rainy night. She then works with her friends and police to locate the murderer.
I really enjoyed this book and rated it 4 stars. I found the characters likable and was never annoyed at how the main character was investigating (meaning, not putting themselves in silly situations that cause you to roll your eyes). The plot was well thought out and moved at a good pace. I am looking forward to the 3rd book!
Finlay Donovan is Killing It by Elle Cosimano
Although technically not a cozy mystery, Ihad the same feeling reading this so I’m grouping it in here.
Author Finlay Donovan is overheard (at Panara) explaining the plot and problems of her recent book. The person who overhears her thinks she is a hired assassin and proceeds to hire her and hijinx ensue.
Boy did I enjoy this book! 5 stars. I read it in 36 hours and laughed outloud several times. I loved the main character and her sidekick. I can’t wait for the second in the series to be released.
Reading Between the Crimes by Kate Young (Jane Doe Book Club Mystery #2)
I had listened to book #1 and enjoyed it as a light, fun book.
I was so surprised (pleasantly surprised) that this book had so much more depth to it. The plot was more intense and moved at a good pace. The main character Lyla has matured and is a strong, capable PI. This book also did not fall on or rely on cliche plot twists. I am now into this series for the long haul. 4 stars.
Hollywood Homicide by Kellye Garrett, narrated by Bahni Turpin (Detective by Day #1).
I found this book via Hoopla, it was a free bonus borrow for May.
This book was a hoot! I laughed outloud and loved the main character and all her friends. It goes without saying that Bahni Turpin is a master narrator. I immediately borrowed book #2, Hollywood Ending. I did see that book #3 is in the works. 4 stars.
Those are some recent reads and I’ll be posting my May reading roundup here and on instagram too!
